Babaran Segaragunung Culture House welcomed the young generation of Yogya to join them in contemplating Fiber Face Yogya 2007.  Following several meetings and discussions it was decided that the Fiber Face exhibition would feature fiber artists who resided in Yogyakarta. This first Fiber Face exhibition prioritized the young artists whose works, it was hoped, would launch the discourse for the following exhibitions. We chose fiber art because it presents a thread of expression from the past to the present.  This bond becomes interesting as a perspective from which we can view the process of the creative journey from period to period, both in artistic forms, processing of materials and contemplation of their values.

The artists participating in this exhibition were: Agus Ismoyo, Caroline Rika Winata, Viktor Sarjono, Ananta O’Edan, Abdul Syukur, Bu Hartinah, Mahani, P’Trus, Rifqi Sukma, and Gatot Sumartono. The opening was held on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Suliantoro Sulaiman officially opened the exhibition.  There was a performance by A. Untung Basuki, a senior musician in Jogja.  Santi, also from Jogja, represented the young generation with her explorative music.

The exhibition was held from July 28 through August 12, 2007.  The discussion about the exhibition was held on Sunday, August 29, 2007, from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m., with Joanna Barrkman (curator from the Museum and Gallery of Northern Territory Art, Australia), Sujud Dartanto (lecturer in the Faculty of Visual Design, Indonesian Institute for the Arts, Yogyakarta), Nia Fliam (artist), and Anusapati (artist and lecturer at ISI).
