Batik Questions

Batik Questions

Our Batik Nitik workshop is a Short Cultural Program that offers a focused exploration of Batik Nitik, a rare and intricate style of batik unique to Yogyakarta. Unlike other workshops that may provide a general introduction to batik, our program delves deeply into the history, techniques, and cultural significance of Batik Nitik. Participants have the opportunity to learn directly from master artisans who specialize in this particular style, making it a unique and immersive cultural experience.
Batik is used as a medium because of Agus and Nia’s background and interest from their early stages of artistic practice. Agus comes from a line of batik makers from Solo, and Nia came to Indonesia in the early 80s to continue her study of batik.
Through Agus and Nia’s artistic journey, they have collaborated with communities and artists in different parts of the world. They believe that similarities in creative processes are rooted in traditional knowledge systems everywhere. Therefore, through the medium of batik, the essence of this creative process is accessible to anyone and can utimately be used through any medium.
